Explain the Game
After everyone has "logged in," someone should
press the "start game" button.
Important! Only one person should press the
"start game" button and only after
everyone has logged in.
Once the game starts, the computer will give you the beginning of
a phrase. It is up to you to complete the phrase. After you have
done so, click the submit button. A couple of hints: Do
Not start your phrase with a capital letter. Also try to
use the same amount of time typing for every
phrase, even if you have to backspace a lot. This is so your
fellow players can not tell if you are entering a long or a short
phrase. Finally, pay attention to spelling errors. The text you
enter will go through a spell checker, and it is possble that the
correct answer will have misspelled words, but if your answer
contains the word teh instead of
the chances are you won't receive many votes.
After everyone has completed the phrase, all of the phrases,
including the correct one, will be sent out to all of the players.
Thus if there are four players, they will each receive five
phrases, in a random order. (Not accounting for duplicates.) Now
it is time to vote. Each player votes for one and
only one phrase. After everyone has voted, the computer computes
the score and sends it out to everyone. It also sends the next
question. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Explain Logging In
It is quite possible that more than one player will select the
same user name. We have displayed everything we know about the
users that match your name above. If none of them is you, click
on the "None of the above" button and we will create another
player with this user name.
Explain Scoring
Here is how scoring works:
- If the phrase you sent in matches the correct phrase, you get two points
- If you voted for the correct phrase, you get one point
- If someone else voted for your phrase, you get one point
- If you voted for your own phrase, you get zero points
Explain Errors
Sometimes people accidentally close their browser window while
playing. This causes them to lose their connection to the game.
If this happens, do not panic. Tell your fellow players to wait
for you, and go ahead and log in again with the exact same user
name. The game will move ahead to the next question, but the
score will be preserved and you can continue playing.
