hand until you get off the bus because union inspectors sometimes board
busses and check for tickets. It lets the union know that the driver is not try-
ing to cheat them. There is not a transfer system in Mazatlán, so if you have to
take two busses, you pay full fare for each.
Another convenience is that while some bus stops are designated, if you just
stand on the curb and wave at a bus, it will usually stop unless it is full or the
driver decides it is too dangerous to stop. On some routes there are set bus
stops and the driver will not stop except at those stops. Just look up and down
the street for a bus stop or where others seem to be standing in wait for a bus.
The Sábalo Centro bus is the most popular and runs from the extreme north
at Playa Cerritos, south to the downtown area. If you want to go anywhere
within the Golden Zone, just jump on any bus. Unless you like to ride on
busses, or would like to go to various places in the city to look around, when
in doubt, ask the driver if he is going where you want to go.
Here is a listing of the routes and places the busses go from the Golden
Zone, heading south (in some cases you may have to walk two to three blocks):
Sábalo Centro
Aquarium
Senor Frogs
Fisherman's Monument
The Cathedral
Central Market
Plazuela Machada
Angela Peralta Theater
Ferry dock
The end of the line is the cruise ship, ferry, and launch docks. Then you can
catch the return bus (but you have to pay another fare), and in minutes it will
go through Olas Altas.
Cerritos Juarez Playa Bruja
Sam's Club
El Cid Marina
Gran Plaza Shopping Mall
Baseball Stadium
