HRASES
With assistance from Sra. Maria del Rosario Romero de Rodriguez of the
"English and Spanish for All," school.
To learn conversational Spanish, it is important to learn the correct pro-
nunciation of the Spanish words. If you cannot pronounce a word, you will
not be able to recognize it when it is spoken to you.
Guide to Pronunciation
Vowels:
a
as in far
e
as in bay
i
as in fee
o
as in roll
u
as in crude
y (alone)
as in, any
Consonants are like those in English, except:
b and v are both pronounced "b."
c is hard as in cub, except before e or i--it is like an s.
d between two vowels is like a cross between English d and the.
g is hard before a, o or u as in English, except, where English sounds like j
before e or i--Spanish g sounds like a guttural h.
h is silent as in hour.
ll sounds like y as in yes.
ņ sounds like ny, as Spanish word seņor, or canyon in English.
