There was no formal speaker arranged for today, so Ron opened up the
meeting to a general discussion.  

Just a few days ago, the pope announced that he believed that global
warming caused by man is an urgent issue that must be addressed by all
the nations of the world with an aim to minimize the damage towards
the planet.  The discussion that followed went along the following
lines:

\item Kudos to the pope for speaking up
\item The church always tries to denigrate science
\item Why does the tea party point out the failings of science
\item How does religion influence politics
\item Eisenhower was responsible for the introduction of religion into
  American politics
\item The reform party in Canada is the de facto ``religious party''
  of Canada.
\item The reform party was organized in the 80's and has had a great
  influence on the current Canadian administratino
\end{itemize}

At this point Ron intervened and ask that the discussion turn away
from politics and revert to free thinking.

\begin{itemize}
\item Henry suggested that an effort be made to rewrite the Bible and
  leave out the ``crazy parts.''
\item Several people pointed out that the Bible is the \textit{word of god,}
  and hence cannot be altered by man.
\item A lively discussion followed.
\end{itemize}
